David M. Cannell & Associates was established in 1972, since when the practice has undertaken an extremely varied range of work internationally, designing and surveying commercial vessels, naval vessels and yachts of many types. The practice covers virtually all areas of the broad Naval Architecture and Marine Surveying disciplines applicable to commercial and leisure craft under approximately 150m, with past projects ranging from the design of yachts and fast commercial vessels to marine salvage support.

Whether you require a new boat design, assistance with a technical marine problem, or the services of a marine surveyor, we can provide a high quality, professional service. We also have extensive experience of providing expert evidence for litigation and arbitration proceedings.
Services
These services are backed by 40+ years experience in the design and survey of yachts and vessels up to 160m in length.
We regularly carry out Expert Witness work in the High Courts, London and abroad, including the U.S.A., on matters related to yacht and small commercial craft design and survey.
Forensic investigations and assessment of technical data can be undertaken, making use of comprehensive in house computer software and hardware as required, and using external specialists where approriate.
David M. Cannell & Associates work with many Superyacht owners, captains and management companies providing Naval Architecture, Surveying and Consultancy services, and advising on technical and regulatory aspects of their vessels and operations.
We are experienced with Sail and Power Superyachts, of steel, alloy, FRP and timber/composite construction, from 24m to 160m+.
Whether you require a new design, build or refit management, technical, regulatory or operational advice, assessment of a problem or defect, or an expert witness for litigation, mediation or arbitration, we can assist.
A comprehensive, detailed and carefully prepared specification is essential for ensuring that a vessel can be built, repaired or modified to meet the requirements of the Client.
All too often, lack of professional advice at this stage leads to omissions or errors in the specification, resulting in costly variations during build.
Modern Superyachts are increasingly complex, and as complexity increases, so do the chances of important details being omitted from the Specification, resulting in increased costs later in the project.
David M. Cannell & Associates have over 40 years experience of surveying large sailing yachts and motor yachts, from under 24m to over 100m.
Having undertaken literally thousands of surveys, our experience is unrivalled.
We operate in the UK, across Europe and Worldwide.
We undertake pre-purchase condition surveys, damage surveys, valuations, insurance surveys, newbuild inspections, refit surveys and tonnage measurements, and can assist with salvage operations.
See below for more information, use the Survey Request Form to obtain a quotation or Contact us to discuss your requirements.
David M. Cannell & Associates have long history of combining our detailed knowledge of vessel operations and requirements with our technical expertise and creativity to find original solutions, and develop these into working designs.
Examples of this include the 'Fast Round Chine Vessel' hull form used for many of our fast commercial vessel designs, and the Daughter Vessel launch and recovery system used on a number of our Patrol and Coastguard vessels.
These vessels are designed to bridge the gap between fully planing and displacement vessels, combining many of the best characteristics of both types.
