Services
Ships take many forms, however all are subjected to the harsh operating conditions of the marine environment, which can result in a gradual deterioration in the condition of a valuable asset.
Likewise, the seaworthiness and safety of a seagoing vessel may be compromised by unforseen events such as adverse weather, breakdown or negligence.
An independent condition survey, carried out periodically, not only reports to Owners, Charterers, Underwriters or Insurers the general condition of the ship, but also gives an insight into the vessel's operating and procedural matters such as crew training and safety awareness.
A Adamson are experts in the field of salvage and recovery of marine vessels, throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
We have particular expertise in salvage and recovery of ships and boats that suffer accidents on the West Coast of Scotland.
Ships and boats of any size can suffer accidents due to adverse weather conditions, navigational or human error, machinery failure, or sometimes a combination of one or more of these.
The West Coast of Scotland offers some of the most scenic sailing waters in the World, but strong tides and currents, and unexpected gusts of wind, can result in vessels capsizing, grounding on rocky shorelines, or in the worst case foundering or sinking.
To ensure that registered ships meet a satisfactory standard, most Flag State Administrations have in place a system of periodical inspection, normally carried out by Approved Nautical Inspectors.
Under Maritime Labour Conventions, the flag state also has a duty to ensure that ships are well maintained and safely operated.
Registration Safety Inspections are normally carried out prior to a ship being accepted onto a Registry, and annually thereafter.
Safety Inspections are comprehensive and include inspection and verification of documentation and procedures, general examination of the ship structure, machinery and equipment, and operational testing of lifesaving and firefighting apparatus.
During the transportation of cargoes, by sea, road or air freight, damage may be suffered as a result of many causes which include deficient cargo handling during loading, discharging or trans-shipment operations, movement or shifting during shipment, or as a consequence of an external event which may occur at any time between despatch and delivery.
A survey of damaged cargo, competently conducted, strives to uncover the root cause of the damage, and investigate the possibilities for repair or recovery, in order that the cargo may be accepted suitable for use without detriment.
Lloyd's of London is the world's leading insurance market, its underwriting syndicates providing a wide range of insurance cover to the marine, offshore and aviation industries, in addition to commercial and domestic sectors.
