The practice was established by Basil Streat in 1973. David Streat joined the practice in 1980 and worked with his father until his retirement in 1988. Since then, David has run the practice with one other qualified surveyor, Katie Moss MRICS, together with invaluable secretarial input from Margaret Sullivan and Gill Thurlow. David Streat qualified in 1979 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1986.
Services
We value our independence highly and aim to provide a personal and efficient service to our clients.
We specialise in the inspection of older and larger houses, although we are of course happy to inspect properties of all ages and types.
In principle our approach to old buildings is a practical and pragmatic one.
We appreciate of course that clients must be warned and advised about current and future problems but we believe that old buildings should be treated with respect and also that our clients do not wish to be deflected from a purchase for insignificant reasons.
The majority of our survey work is undertaken in Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds and the adjacent counties, but we are happy to travel where appropriate and have in the past undertaken survey work as far afield as Yorkshire, Norfolk, Kent, the Isle of Wight, Devon and Shropshire.
In addition to the full Building Surveys, we also undertake RICS HomeBuyer Reports which are ideally suited to relatively modern buildings of conventional construction.
We are more than happy to discuss the type of inspection and report which would suit any particular building.
Over the last thirty years, we have organised and managed repair and renovation projects on a large number of residential properties ranging from Victorian terraced buildings to manor houses.
We work with other professionals where required, including architects, interior designers and structural engineers.
We are happy either to introduce other professionals or to work with those engaged separately by the clients.
The project management role can vary depending upon the amount of input required by the client, but usually involves the preparation of a specification or schedule of work, obtaining estimates from builders, organisation of the commencement of the job and regular site visits during the progress of the work.
